About 270 Muslim pilgrims from Kwara State reportedly protested the delay caused by a faulty airline at the Ilorin International Airport on Friday afternoon as they intend to embark on their flights to Hajjin Saudi Arabia.

According to Vanguard, the protest commenced at 4:00 pm (WAT), with the pilgrims blocking the movement of vehicles along the famous Ilorin/Ogbomoso/Ibadan expressway.

This discontent in flight delays was reported to have caused a standstill, affecting airport operations and inconveniencing road users.

Speaking with the media, one of the demonstrators, Sadudeen Alapo, alleged that they had been at the Ilorin Hajj camp for the previous five days without an aircraft until it was brought in last (Thursday) night.

He expressed surprise that despite the presence of the aircraft, they were yet to be airlifted.

In response to the demonstration, the Kwara state Amirul Hajj Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe explained that the aircraft brought to airlift the intending pilgrims developed faults.

The board has called for another airline that will airlift the pilgrims later today, he said.

Oloriegbe has since urged the pilgrims to remain calm as he assured them that everyone will be airlifted by this night.
