The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has declared June 16 as Sallah day after sighting the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah.

It officially announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent on Thursday, signalling the commencement of the holy month.

As a result, Friday, June 7, will mark the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah, initiating this year’s Hajj pilgrimage season.

The Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 will commence on Friday, June 14. Arafat Day is set for Saturday, June 15, with Eid Al Adha following on Sunday, June 16, according to the Saudi Supreme Court.

Celebrated worldwide by Muslims, Eid Al Adha occurs on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah (the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar), serving as the second major Islamic festival following Eid-ul-Fitr.

Meanwhile, approximately 2.5 million Muslim pilgrims are anticipated to participate in the 2024 Hajj. Specifically, around 65,000 pilgrims from Nigeria are expected to partake in this year’s Hajj.
