Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment and loyalty to his party in response to recent speculation regarding his party affiliation.

He made this declaration on Thursday via his official X handle while addressing concerns raised by some Nigerians following conflicting interpretations of his recent political expression.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I remain a committed, loyal Labour Party member,” Obi declared.

He said the need for clarification came after a journalist approached him at the Abuja International Airport and asked whether his remarks regarding the Obidient Movement signalled a departure from the Labour Party.

Responding, Obi said:

“For the attention of all those holding such an impression and for the general public, I remain a faithful, committed and loyal member of the Labour Party.”

He added that as a leader within the party, his aspiration and desire to work closely with other leaders is to foster unity among members and collaborate with like-minded individuals and parties across the nation to build a strong and better party that will “catalyse and commence the rebuilding of a new Nigeria.”

“My statement yesterday was intended to clarify some issues that are of concern to our teeming supporters, some of whom are not members of any political party but are desirous for a new Nigeria,” Obi stated, reiterating that his goal and aspirations remain a new Nigeria is Possible.
