Labour Party Renames Directorate Of Obidient Movement

141

The Labour Party has renamed the ‘Directorate of OBIDIENT Affairs’, established in May, to oversee the interests of the ‘Obidient’ movement within the party.

It was renamed the ‘Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration’.

The change in appellation was contained in a statement published on the party’s website on Thursday and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.

Ifoh noted in the statement that the change was due to controversies that greeted the initial establishment of the directorate.

Following the controversies arising from creating the Directorate of OBIDIENT Affairs in the party, the Directorate is now renamed the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.

“The inauguration will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the party’s National Secretariat, Utako, Abuja by 10 am,” the statement reads partly.

The Obidient Movement is an army of mostly young people who supported and still support the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, to be Nigeria’s President.

Recall that yesterday, Obi, who contested in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party, stated that the ‘Obidient’ movement is not exclusive to any particular party, ethnic group or religion.

Obi said the movement serves “as a beacon of hope for a reimagined Nigeria, where leadership is grounded in character, capacity, competence, compassion, and the well-being of all citizens.”
