The Federal High Court in Abuja granted Chioma Okoli a N5 million bail with two sureties in the same amount on Friday, following allegations concerning her online comments about Erisco Foods Limited’s tomato paste product.

Okoli is facing charges under the Cybercrime Act of 2015 related to her online remarks about the tomato paste produced by Erisco Foods Limited.

The Inspector-General of Police brought her before the court, and she was indicted on two cybercrime counts.

Her bail was confirmed in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) by her lawyer, Ihibehe Effiong.

We perfected the bail of Chioma Okoli yesterday and successfully secured her release from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, where she was remanded on Tuesday after her arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Effiong stated.

Okoli has since reunited with her family and recuperates while seeking proper medical care.

Effiong added,

Chioma is grateful to Nigerians who have supported her materially and otherwise. This case further demonstrates that there are people of conscience and goodwill who would not hesitate to commit their energies, resources, and voices to pursue justice and defence of the oppressed.

Effiong acknowledged the profound and humbling assistance Chioma received from various supporters, stating,

“Some people have helped Chioma in ways that are simply profound and humbling; we are eternally grateful to every one of them.”
