Court Finds Former President Trump Guilty of Felony in Hush-Money Case

1.5k

A New York jury has found former U.S. President Donald Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, marking the first time a former president has been convicted of a crime.

Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention.

He faces penalties ranging from fines to four years in prison for each count. However, legal experts anticipate that the sentences will likely be served concurrently rather than consecutively.

Following the verdict, Trump vehemently denounced the trial. “This is a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt,” he told reporters outside the courthouse.

The decision was handed down in the Manhattan courtroom where Trump has been on trial since April 15.

He had pleaded not guilty to all charges, which stemmed from allegations of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment made by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the final weeks of the 2016 presidential election.
