LASEMA Speaks on Mosque Collapse in Mushin

The Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Osinyantolu, has reacted to the recent mosque collapse that occurred on Sunday in the Papa Ajao area of Mushin.

According to a statement issued by Osinyantolu, an excavating machine accidentally struck the mosque structure while clearing the road.

Following the collapse, emergency response teams, including LASEMA’s unit, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant authorities were quickly deployed to manage the crisis.

After an extensive exercise, the final casualty report on the incident is as follows: three fatalities and seven casualties, each varying in severity. The affected buildings have been levelled to ground zero,” Osinyantolu stated.

Meanwhile, the recent collapse in the state adds to the frequent building collapse in Nigeria’s densely populated commercial hub, most of which experts attribute its cause to the use of substandard building materials and lack of professional oversight.
