Chimezie Imo, an emerging talent in Nigeria’s film industry, is set to debut his first produced film, “Strawberry Chinny,” at the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, to be held from July 4 to July 7, 2024. Imo, known for his roles in blockbuster Nollywood hits like “Breathe of life” (2023) and “Sista” (2022), steps into the producer’s chair for the first time with this project.

The Essence Film Festival, renowned for showcasing diverse Black stories and creators across Africa, offers a platform not only for film premieres but also for panel discussions and workshops. “Strawberry Chinny” will be featured in the Cultural Connections section of the festival, highlighting its unique narrative and talent.

The film follows the journey of Chinny, a Nigerian makeup artist portrayed by Genoveva Umeh. She finds herself in a complicated living situation with her childhood friend Ifeanyi, played by Imo, after a heartbreaking breakup. Directed by Cheta Chukwu and produced by Kele, Ngozi Okafor, and Imo, the rom-com promises to deliver a fresh perspective on love and friendship.

Joining Umeh and Imo in the cast are Obehi Aburime and Modola Osifuwa, rounding out the lineup with their stellar performances.
