Lagos State demolishes business structures in Ikoyi after 24hrs notice

The Lagos State Government, through its building control agency (LASBCA), has commenced the demolition of business infrastructures along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, after issuing a 24-hour notice to occupiers.

In a video whose coverage is AriseTV, one of the buildings marked for demolition by LASBCA reads, “Remove with 24 hrs ENF/LAS/BCAHQ/260424”.

While the Lagos State Building Control Agency claimed to have issued a notice directing the evacuation of businesses on the extension of Awolowo road, one of the employees at Domino Pizza’s with the impact of demolition testified to the press, stating they never received any notice.

Police officers harassed us. This place is not safe for us anymore due to gas leakages, says Adeyemi, who is an employee of Domino’s Pizza

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police officers who accompanied LASBCA were reported to have assaulted employees of the businesses without giving an audience to questions.

Although one of the LASBCA officials rejects speaking to the press, preliminary findings show the buildings impacted are an extension of the road.
