The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has appealed to privileged Nigerians to fund the drilling of 200,000 boreholes across the country to solve the problem of clean water, as well as tackle the pressing issue of out-of-school children across Nigeria.

Obi made the appeal on Wednesday at a press briefing in Abuja, while speaking on the issues affecting the ordinary Nigerian.

Obi said noble Nigerians should support investment in the education and health sectors for the benefit of the masses.

The Labour Party chieftain also delved into the leadership crisis rocking his party with Julius Abure, the national chairman at the centre of the tussle.

Obi said the “abnormality” in the LP was nothing compared to happenings in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), further stating that a lack of crisis in the Labour Party will not solve the challenge of providing portable water, neither will it deal with the almajiri school system, both of which are reasons for his appeal.

“I came to appeal for a different thing today and listen to your concerns and we will deal with those concerns,” he said, as he asked Nigerians not to allow the crisis rocking the party to undermine his appeal.

“My appeal is one where the poor people live a better life, and that is why I’ve been going around trying to help in any way I can,” Obi said, stressing that the wellbeing of the people should be a primary concern that should not be muddled with party politics but instead, be carried out collectively for the betterment of the people.

On Anambra educational system, he urged Nigerians to go and read his manifesto, saying while he was campaigning to be governor, he promised to change the falling educational system of Anambra state, where schools will never be closed, ensuring to give the best to education as well as reverse the male-girl child issue where most of the males were not in school.

“By the time I started, we were number 26, 27 in WAEC and NECO. By the time I left, we were number one.

“Every secondary school in Anambra state had a borehole, computers, and generator. We were able to train our teachers, and the result is what you’re seeing today.” he said, while emphasising that what he promised the people, he delivered in Anambra State.
