The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that Sudan is on the brink of a heightened crisis unless humanitarian aid and medical supplies can reach those in need.

Since fighting broke out on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the conflict has severely damaged the nation’s infrastructure, leading to fears of famine and mass displacement, both within Sudan and beyond its borders.

The ongoing war has resulted in thousands of civilian deaths, with the exact toll unclear and allegations of war crimes levelled against both sides.

A spokesperson for the WHO, Christian Lindmeier, hammered on the urgency of the  situation in Sudan, stating that “Time is running out.”

Without a stop to the fighting and unhindered access for the delivery of humanitarian aid, Sudan’s crisis will dramatically worsen in the months to come and could impact the whole region – Lindmeier.
