The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)has ensured Abubakar Sadiq Aremu, a 23-year-old Nigerian, was handed a four-year prison sentence for his involvement in the forgery of annual returns receipts.
Aremu was arraigned before the Upper Area Court in Mpape, Abuja, on March 21, 2023, where he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.
According to reports, Aremu confessed to the crime of uploading forged receipts onto the CAC portal in order to fulfill the annual return requirements for a company. This deceptive act ultimately led to his apprehension and subsequent legal proceedings.
In response to the judgement, Registrar-General and CEO of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Ishaq Hussaini M. SAN, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “This development is a big boost to our efforts to stem the activities of criminals trying to circumvent established processes and procedures in CAC.”
Hussaini emphasized the commission’s unwavering determination to pursue individuals attempting to manipulate or evade its regulations. “We are ready to go after anyone trying to flout our rules in order to strengthen the system for the benefit of the economy,” he affirmed.
