French naval forces have intercepted 10.7 tonnes of cocaine from a Brazilian fishing boat in the Gulf of Guinea, officials disclosed on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip from the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), French authorities initiated a raid, seizing the drugs from a 20-meter-long Brazilian-flagged vessel.

According to the prefecture, the seizure yielded 10,693 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated market worth of nearly 695 million euros ($754 million).

The Brest public prosecutor’s office, responsible for such cases, ordered the drugs destroyed and chose not to pursue legal action against the boat’s crew.

This operation was part of France’s ongoing security efforts in the Gulf of Guinea, where they typically deploy one to two ships and air support.
