Crystal Palace Manager, Roy Hodgson Steps Down Due to Illness

154

Roy Hodgson has announced his departure as the manager of Crystal Palace, citing health concerns amidst the club’s battle to secure Premier League survival.

The 76-year-old veteran coach decided to step aside as the Eagles currently sit just five points clear of the relegation zone. Hodgson’s resignation comes amid speculation that Palace had lined up Oliver Glasner as his potential replacement.

However, the focus shifted abruptly last week when Hodgson was hospitalised after falling ill during a training session.

In a heartfelt statement released on the club’s website, Hodgson expressed his gratitude for his time at Crystal Palace and acknowledged the need for the club to plan for the future.

“This club is very special and means so much to me. It has played a big part in my footballing life,” Hodgson stated. “I have fully enjoyed my time here across six seasons as it has given me the chance to work with top-class players and staff doing what I love every day. However, I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead.”

Acknowledging the support he received from the club’s hierarchy, coaching staff, and players, Hodgson extended his best wishes for the remainder of the season and beyond.

He expressed strong confidence in the team’s ability to finish the campaign under the interim management of Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy, who will lead the squad in tonight’s clash against Everton.

Crystal Palace confirmed that Hodgson had been discharged and is recovering well.

The club is expected to announce his permanent replacement shortly as they continue their efforts to secure their Premier League status for the upcoming seasons.
