Police in the Mpape Division in the FCT have been accused of demanding N50,000 before they would commence tracking of a 60-year-old kidnapped victim in Abuja.

Alfred Ahọn was kidnapped in the early hours of 1 February in the Mpape district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after he set out from home to embark on a journey to Lagos.

After efforts to reach Mr Ahon proved abortive, his family reported a missing person case to the police where they demanded for bribe before they commence tracking the victim or the kidnappers.

His wife, Senami, and an anonymous neighbour told Premium Times that, “We went to the police in Mpape division so they can help track the number but as usual they are asking for money. The DCO is asking for a N50,000 deposit to track,” Mrs Ahon said.

“They clearly told us they don’t have the equipment to track but the DSS does and that they have to sort the DSS out before it can be done,” the neighbour corroborated.

According to Premium Times, two days after Mr Ahon went missing, his wife was called with his number where she was informed to source N100 million as ransom to secure his release.

“It was early morning on Sunday when the wife was contacted through the man’s phone by the kidnappers who told her they were holding her husband and that if she wanted him alive she should go and look for N100 million and must not tell anyone.

“She told them they should let her hear from her husband to believe their story but they hung up the call.

“On Monday, the kidnappers called back and gave the phone to the man who was crying, lamenting of torture and begging his wife to go and look for what they demanded.

“They called around the same time yesterday (Monday) and threatened the woman before they allowed her to speak with her husband who was crying and wailing, seriously complaining of torture.

“The husband begged her to please look for money so he can be released and that’s where we are now,” an anonymous neighbour told Premium Times.

It’s been over two weeks after the kidnapping of Mr Ahọn, he has not been released and the police are yet to respond on the matter, the report said.

Meanwhile, following the N20 million bounty the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, placed on two wanted notorious kidnappers in Abuja, police operatives have successfully apprehended Dabiru Adamu, one of the notorious criminals.

Wike had on 14 February announced a reward for any information leading to the capture of Adamu and another accomplice, who had orchestrated several abductions, causing widespread fear and distress among the residents of the territory.

The arrest of Dabiru Adamu came two days after the Minister made the announcement. In the announcement Wike said, “You said there are two criminals on the run? Let me put money on their heads. Wherever they are, send your men out there, I will give them N20 million. Go and fish them out, wherever they are. I want to see them dead or alive.”

As the story of Adamu is still developing, the police are yet to react to the allegations made by Mr Ahon’s family.
