Despite the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) assuring that they won’t increase fuel prices, independent sellers have increased their prices to more than N700 per litre in states like Sokoto and Borno.

A survey by Daily Trust found that in Sokoto city, fuel was being sold for prices between N690 and N700 per litre at stations owned by independent sellers.

It was found that some big sellers like AA Rano and Dan Marina were charging N675 per litre, while the NNPC’s owned stations were selling it cheaper at N620 per litre.

West Africa Weekly also confirmed that the AA Rano petrol station along Sokoto-Gusau Road is selling for N675. A source told our reporter that the price has been the same for “two weeks now.”

According to the Daily Trust report, the price went up to N720 per litre in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. It was noticed that NNPC stations, which should sell fuel at fixed government prices, haven’t been selling it for more than a week.

In Kano, the price ranged from N620 to N690 per litre, with NNPC stations at the lower end. AA Rano and Aliko Oil were selling for N675 per litre.

Regardless of the price increases, NNPC Ltd. has assured Nigerians to disregard the rumours and confirmed that there are no plans to raise the price of fuel.
