The Plateau State Police Command has paraded 17 suspects connected to the recent violent killings around the state.

Assistant Inspector General of Police zone four, Ebong Eyibio, paraded the suspects before newsmen yesterday at the Plateau State Police Command Headquarters in Jos.

He stated that eight of the apprehended criminals were connected to the 2023 Christmas Eve attacks, while the remaining nine were arrested in relation to the recent security breach in Mangu Local Government Area.

Eyibio, represented by the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, disclosed the recovery of ten corpses following the recent incident in Mangu.

He said, “The Plateau State Police Command successfully thwarted an attack on villages in Mangu LGA on 24/01/24 at about 2200 hours, we received intelligence concerning an attack targeted on the Ntam community and the ASTC Company, both of Mangu LGA.”

He highlighted that the prompt response of the police, prevented attacks in various locations, including an attempted arson on worship centers in Panyam District.

Eyibio said additional Special Intervention personnel have been deployed to the LGA to reinforce security and ensure compliance with the imposed curfew in the area. He emphasised a zero-tolerance approach to criminality and underscored the commitment to restoring peace and normalcy within the state.

Weapons including machetes and kegs containing petrol were among the exhibits recovered from the suspects.

Eyibio urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies while assuring that efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and order in the region. Eyibio’s deployment to Plateau State post-Christmas Eve attacks, coupled with these recent arrests, indicates significant efforts in addressing the security challenges in the state.
