Rabiu Kwankwaso

A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has demanded that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate’s should be expelled from the party.

The faction led by the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Temitope Aluko, has also claimed that Buba Galadima and all members of the old National Working Committee (NWC) have also been expelled from the party.

Speaking in a statement on Monday, Aluko urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop dealing with the affected persons, demanding that the electoral body provide up to date records in recognition of the expelled membera and the purported new party leadership. In the statement, Aluko said:

“Once again, may we use this public space to remind the INEC, through its chairman, that we have requested the urgent need to update their records of the National Executive Committee of the NNPP. It is instructive to indicate herein that the constitution of the NNPP is supreme and binding on all members, without prejudice to the overarching Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act.”

Going further, he stated that INEC has no constitutional power to interfere with the internal affairs of the party. it will be recalled that the issue of party membership recognition and the NNPP ffactio’s authenticity is yet to be decided at the Federal High Court.
