Armed men abducted 45 passengers from three 15-seater commercial buses on the Otukpo-Enugu Road in Benue State. The incident unfolded around 3:30 pm when the heavily armed assailants ambushed the vehicles, compelling drivers to stop at gunpoint. The attack, occurring in broad daylight, was aimed at commercial buses, potentially for a higher ransom due to the number of passengers.
Thankfully, a driver and passengers escaped, seeking refuge in the bush. Soldiers later arrived to investigate. Negotiations for ransom, initially set at N15 million per passenger, were reduced to N3 million during talks, but communication was abruptly cut off, complicating the situation.
Families are searching desperately for information, underscoring the pressing need for enhanced security on Nigerian roads. The incident emphasizes the ongoing challenges faced by travellers and the need for urgent measures to address such criminal activities.
