Supreme Court Affirms Abba Yusuf as Kano Governor

1.1k
The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the appointment of three second-class Emirs over the newly created emirates in Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

Following the ongoing cases of governorship candidate elections contested at the court of appeal, the Supreme Court has, out of many cases, affirmed the candidate of NNPP, Abba Yusuf, as the duly elected governor of Kano State.

Justice John Okoro, in his lead judgement, held that the lower court was wrong in its judgement to have reduced the votes secured by Abba Yusuf, which nullified his victory in the March 18 governorship poll in Kano State.

The lower court earlier declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir Gawuna, as the electoral winner, but the actions of Yusuf supporters speak dissatisfaction, hence the mayhem that broke the streets of Kano at the court judgment.

The protest broke out with a brewing fire of the court’s judgement rejection of their preferred candidate, following the reported discrepancies in the certified true copy of the judgement, which the court faults as a clerical error.

However, the Supreme Court, in its judgement today, held a different ruling in favour of Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected governor of Kano State.

The newly affirmed Kano Governor has taken to his official X’s handle to declare his victory at the apex court.
