Niger State Governor Makes Outrageous Promises Not Backed By Data

1.2k

The Governor of Niger State, Umar Bago, has made a promise to his people, saying his administration will likely generate one trillion naira in the next 5 years through the Niger Food Security and Logistics Company.

The statement was made through his Special Adviser on digital media, Abdullberqy Ebbo, in Abuja. According to him, 100,000 farmers will be employed by the state to farm about 100,000 hectares.

This assertion is based on an agreement allegedly signed by the governor with the chairman of Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun, and Sadik Kassim, Executive Director of TGI, and witnessed by the Chairman of Union Bank and Malam Faruk Gumel, another Executive of the TGI Group.

According to the agreement, the state will produce 600,000 to one million tonnes of different agricultural produce per year for 5 years.

No data for the current agricultural position of the state was given.

Nigerian Public officeholders are known for outrageous promises they never manage to fulfil, and this has been a consistent pattern with Politicians over the years. They have recently mastered the art of making these projections with a timeline that exceeds their tenure to escape accountability.

For the sake of the people of Niger, hopefully, this is not the case.
