Bola Tinubu on Wednesday made known to the public his decision to cut 50% off rail and road fares as low-cost transportation with Air Travel Exemption for Nigerians during the yuletide season starting from December 21st, 2023 – 4th of January 2024.
In an announcement made by the Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on Presidential intervention, Dele Alake, it was stated that Nigerians can travel by road and rail with a discount of 50% off as a directive of the President.
This is a directive for which no implementation plan has been made publicly known yet. However, the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, also stated that “the President is well aware of the recent increase in the cost of interstate transportation and even for air travel.
Meanwhile, the President’s initiative was to consider air travel along with road and rail discounts, but the President hesitated, the reason being that “the masses don’t travel by air.”
According to Tinubu, this is intended to help people who are suffering greatly from the exorbitant cost of transportation that is now in place for travelling throughout the nation, particularly during the holidays.
