Amid a distressing family altercation captured in a viral video, the Akwa Ibom State Police swiftly arrested 55-year-old lawyer Mr Ekere Sunday Ebong at his residence in Uyo. This move follows the severe assault on his wife, an act condemned by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko MacDon.

Expressing deep concern, SP MacDon affirmed that Commissioner of Police (CP) Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi ordered Mr. Ebong’s immediate arrest due to the gravity of the incident. Known for a history of violent acts against his wife, the suspect is now in police custody awaiting legal proceedings.

The PPRO emphasized the necessity of this swift action to prevent further harm, even potential murder, given the recurrent nature of such violence. SP MacDon stated, “The CP has warned perpetrators of violent crimes in the State to desist forthwith while urging family members to endeavor to resolve disputes amicably rather than resorting to violent attacks.”

The Commissioner of Police underscored the importance of discouraging violent acts in the state and urged families to seek amicable resolutions. Barrister Ebong will face legal consequences once the investigation is concluded.

This arrest responds to a disturbing video circulating on social media, highlighting the urgency of addressing domestic violence and safeguarding the dignity and rights of individuals, especially women, within homes and communities. The Commissioner’s warning is a stern message against violent crimes in the state.
