Lagos State House of Assembly resonated with melodies as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made his entrance to present the N2.2 trillion budget estimate for the forthcoming 2024 fiscal year.

Accompanied by the rhythm and beats of the Assembly’s Musical Band, the governor stepped into the chambers to unveil the comprehensive financial plan.

Titled the ‘Budget of Renewal, comprising a substantial N1.02 trillion for recurrent expenditure, constituting 45% of the overall budget, and a staggering N1.22 trillion for capital expenditure, accounting for 55% of the budget.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the pivotal role of this budget in alleviating the economic strains resulting from the fuel subsidy removal and other hardships faced by Lagosians.

Rooted in his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.+ Agenda, he noted the budget reflects a continuum of strategies and aspirations outlined in previous fiscal plans since the inception of his administration in 2019.

“Consolidation” emerged as a recurring theme during the governor’s presentation, as he stressed the budget’s commitment to building upon the administration’s achievements.

Moreover, he underscored the formidable implementation rate of the 2023 budget, proudly asserting that 78% of the initiatives outlined in the previous budget had been executed as of the third quarter.

Sanwo-Olu projected a soaring 98% implementation rate by the year’s end, promising dedication to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Lagos.

As the budget proposal undergoes deliberation and scrutiny within the legislative corridors of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the collective gaze remains fixed on the promise of transformation, renewal, and sustained progress envisioned by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s ‘Budget of Renewal’ for the Nigerian megacity.
