Famous Nigerian singer Yemi Alade raised questions regarding the demolition of buildings in Mende Villa 1, Lagos. The artist took to her X to express bewilderment, questioning the approval process behind the now-demolished structure.

Her post, directed at the Lagos State Government, demanded answers: “Why and how was the building plan of Mende Villa 1 approved in the first place!? @followlasg.”

Expressing her dismay further, she criticised the government’s handling of the situation, particularly the lack of adequate notice given to residents.

You have commissioned several building plans in conjunction with Legrande and gained the trust of many. Why dash it all with this one blow? 2hrs notice is trivial!” she wrote.

The demolition of the building in Mende Villa 1 has sparked widespread concern among residents.

Mende Villa 1 residents echoed Alade’s sentiments, expressing frustration over the abrupt nature of the demolition and the lack of clarity regarding the reasons behind it.

It was earlier reported the commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said that property owners whose buildings hindered the flow of drainage in Mende, at Maryland environs, were served notices before demolition from the system 1 Drainage Right of Way.
