Tyla Bags Three Nominations At 2024 MTV VMAs, Leading African Contenders

South African artist Tyla has secured three nominations at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, making her the leading African contender. She was nominated for Best R&B, Best New Artist, and Best Afrobeats. In the Best Afrobeats category, Tyla is joined by several Nigerian artists, including Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Tems. Additionally, Chris Brown’s song “Sensational,” which features Davido and Lojay, as well as Usher’s track “Ruin” featuring Pheelz, have also received nominations in the same category.

Taylor Swift leads the nominations with ten, and Post Malone with eight. Following closely are Ariana Grande, Eminem, and first-time nominee Sabrina Carpenter, each with six nominations.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will be held by 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, September 10, at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
