The Nigerian singer-songwriter and record producer is nominated for a Grammy as a co-writer of Rhianna’s smash “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The smash, which entered the Hot 100 at No. 2 in late 2022, is nominated for best song written for visual media. A year ago, it brought Tems and her co-writers an Oscar nod for best original song.

Tems won a Grammy last year – best melodic rap performance for Future’s “Wait for U,” on which she was featured (along with Drake). That song topped the Hot 100 in 2022. Tems landed her first top 10 hit as a featured artist on Wizkid’s “Essence” in 2021. Justin Bieber was also featured on that smash. – Billboard

On Thursday, March 6, the highly anticipated Billboard Women in Music event will honour Temilade Openiyi, widely recognized as Tems, with a breakthrough award. Billboard annually acknowledges women who make significant contributions to the music industry, serving as inspirations for generations of women.

Tems, an award-winning singer, achieved chart success with her collaboration with Wizkid on the track “Essence,” reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Noteworthy is her collaboration with global stars such as Drake, Future, Beyoncé, and Rihanna.

In their recognition of Tems, Billboard highlights her Grammy nomination as a co-writer for Rihanna’s hit “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This song entered the Hot 100 at No. 2 in late 2022, earning Tems and her co-writers an Oscar nomination the previous year. Tems secured a Grammy win last year for Best Melodic Rap Performance on Future’s “Wait for U,” featuring Drake, a song that dominated the Hot 100 in 2022.

The 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards will also celebrate other talented female artists worldwide, including Kylie Minogue, Charli XCX, NewJeans, Luisa Sonza, Young Miko, Maren Morris, Ice Spice, and Victoria Monét. Hosted by the dynamic Tracee Ellis Ross, the event unfolds at the YouTube Theatre at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California, on March 6, with the awards ceremony streaming on March 7.

Hannah Karp, Billboard’s editorial director, expressed excitement about this year’s honorees and host, stating, “We could not be more excited to celebrate these inspiring and dynamic artists from around the world as they move our culture forward and inspire women everywhere to push boundaries and pursue their own dreams.” With Tracee Ellis Ross at the helm, the Billboard Women in Music Awards promises an unforgettable evening.
