President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Isah has accused President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu of ordering his assault and abduction after he rejected his bribe offer to support his father.
At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Isah alleged that Seyi and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, offered him a bribe in Lagos. He said the money was meant to buy his support for President Tinubu.
Before the day of the inauguration, Seyi had asked the Senior Special Assistant on Students and Youth Affairs to lure me into silence with money. I was told he was ready to offer me a hundred million naira” Isah recounted.
He said he rejected the offer, given that the President had failed to deliver on his campaign promises and did not deserve student endorsement. Shortly after, on April 15, he was abducted by hoodlums. He said he was stripped naked, beaten, and threatened with a video of the assault.
According to him, thugs linked to Seyi Tinubu also stormed the venue of the inauguration at the Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro. He said they carried cutlasses and guns, attacked attendees, and disrupted the event. He added that some guests were stabbed and valuables were stolen. Former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Idris Wada reportedly fled the scene for safety.
Isah told reporters he had been abducted and beaten, and that his attackers had tried to scare him. He said he refused to back down and insisted on attending the inauguration, where he was announced as president. He maintained that, regardless of the threats, he and his team would not give up and that Seyi Tinubu could do whatever he wanted.
However, Seyi Tinubu has denied the allegations on Friday in a post on his Instagram Story. He called the claims false and damaging.
Wow… how can someone lie with so much confidence? An attempt to defame my character….. All these allegations made by Atiku Isah are completely fictional,” he wrote.
He said he had never met Isah or held any meeting with him, either in Lagos or elsewhere. Meanwhile, on April 30, NANS accused Seyi Tinubu of undue interference in its affairs and threatened a nationwide protest.
In a statement signed by NANS National PRO, Orowole Eniola Owoyemi, the group alleged that Seyi Tinubu had persistently tried to hijack the leadership of the association. According to the statement, Comrade Isah had been a repeated target of political intimidation and harassment allegedly coordinated by Seyi Tinubu.
Owoyemi alleged that Abubakar had been abducted twice on Seyi Tinubu’s instruction and linked the violent disruption of the inauguration to thugs loyal to the president’s son. He claimed the goal was to weaken NANS and take control of its leadership. NANS is currently facing a leadership crisis, with two factions claiming the presidency, one led by Olusola Oladoja and the other Isah.
