Rihanna’s Glamorous India Visit: Insights into Celebrities’ Lucrative Private Gigs

Rihanna’s recent arrival in Gujarat, India, has stirred a buzz in the entertainment world as she prepares to dazzle attendees at the pre-wedding celebrations for Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who heads the Fortune 500 company Reliance Industries with an estimated net worth of $113 billion.

Rihanna’s appearance at the star-studded cocktail party on Friday not only elevated the festivities but also led to a jaw-dropping payday of over $5 million for the “Umbrella” singer.

However, Rihanna is not the only celebrity to grace exclusive events for the world’s elites. Beyoncé made waves with a private concert in Dubai in January 2023 to mark the grand opening of the Atlantis The Royal resort, earning a staggering $24 million for her one-hour performance.

Meanwhile, tensions within the Kardashian family surfaced in July 2023 over accusations of wedding aesthetic copying involving famed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

Beyoncé got a multi-million dollar paycheck for a private performance at a luxury resort in Dubai.

Italian singer Andrea Bocelli performed at Kourtney and Kim Kardashians’ weddings — worsening the feud between the two sisters.
In another instance, Jennifer Lopez faced scrutiny after performing at a private concert in Turkmenistan in July 2013, attended by former President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, prompting concerns about human rights violations.

Lopez defended her appearance, emphasising that the event was not political. Similarly, Mariah Carey and other artists faced backlash for private performances for the Gaddafi family, with Carey expressing regret and pledging to donate her earnings.

Jennifer Lopez apologised after doing a private gig for a Turkmenistan leader described as a dictator.

Mariah Carey said she was ’embarrassed’ after appearing in a private concert for family members of Muammar Gaddafi.

The entertainment industry’s involvement in private events extends to iconic bands like The Rolling Stones and Guns N’ Roses, who have commanded hefty sums for exclusive performances. These instances underscore the lucrative and sometimes controversial nature of entertainment engagements for the world’s wealthiest individuals and organisations.
