The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has unveiled its lineup for 2025, featuring over 100 artists set to perform at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. This year, superstar Rema will prominently represent Nigeria, making his festival debut, and Afrobeat legend Seun Kuti who returns for a record-breaking third appearance.
Seun Kuti, the son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, will make history as the Nigerian artist with the most Coachella appearances. His groundbreaking journey with the festival began in 2012 when he became the first Nigerian to grace the iconic stage. For 2025, Kuti is slated to perform on both opening Fridays, April 11 and 18, alongside significant acts like Lady Gaga, Missy Elliott, Lisa, FKA Twigs, and Three 6 Mafia.
Rema, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated contemporary artists, will take the stage on Sunday, April 13 and 20. This marks a significant milestone for the singer, whose global smash hit Calm Down broke streaming records in the United States and became the highest-charting Nigerian song on the Billboard Hot 100. Rema joins a star-studded lineup for his performance days, including headliner Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, Zedd, and Ty Dolla $ign.
Beyond Nigeria, other African artists making waves at Coachella 2025 include Ghanaian sensation Amaarae and South African pop star Tyla. Together, they represent the rich diversity of African music on the global stage, reinforcing the continent’s growing influence in contemporary music.
Coachella 2025 will be headlined by Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Green Day, and Travis Scott, with other significant performers including Missy Elliott, Lisa (of BLACKPINK fame), Megan Thee Stallion, Charli XCX, Anitta, FKA Twigs, Glorilla, and T-Pain. The event spans two weekends—April 11–13 and April 18–20—is expected to draw over 125,000 attendees, cementing its status as the world’s largest music and arts festival.
Rema and Seun Kuti join a growing list of Nigerian artists who have performed at Coachella, including Burna Boy, CKay, Spinall, Fireboy DML, and Tems. At the 2024 edition, Tems delivered a standout performance, sharing the stage with Wizkid and Justin Bieber for a live rendition of their Grammy-nominated Essence remix.
With the inclusion of Rema and the return of Seun Kuti, Coachella 2025 promises to celebrate the global rise of Afrobeats and showcase the enduring legacy of Afrobeat on one of music’s most prestigious stages.
