Q3 2024: NDLEA Seizes Over 1,045kg of Drugs, Arrests 420 in Kaduna

NDLEA Mandates Drug Test On Nigerian Students

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna State has seized over 1,045 kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested 420 suspects during the third quarter of 2024. This was disclosed by NDLEA Kaduna Commander, Samaila Danmalam on Thursday.

The arrests include 404 men and 16 women, who are either drug dealers, users, and traffickers. Seized substances include cocaine, cannabis sativa, rohypnol, tramadol, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic drugs. In addition to drugs, the agency said it confiscated 1,393 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and four locally made firearms in its operations.

Danmalam noted that 30 drug offenders were convicted, and 54 more suspects are currently facing charges, with investigations ongoing. According to the agency, 50 drug users were counselled, and 50 drug-dependent individuals were rehabilitated and reintegrated into society. The NDLEA further urged community members to provide timely information to burst illegal operations.

This is coming amid several seizures of thousands of illicit drugs across West Africa including Guinea Bissauj
