Evangelist Musa Bello, a Fulani convert has been arrested and detained by the Nigerian Police in Abuja.

The arrest, which is believed to be connected to his conversion to Christianity, has raised an uproar on social media with many demanding for his immediate release.

According to a popular online evangelist and a close ally of Bello, Azzaman Azzaman, the police said he was in their custody for protection; however, he was later accused of conspiracy and armed robbery and would be charged to court.

“Apo Division Police Station Abuja, you said he is under your custody for his protection and you said you are taking him to court so that the truth of the matter would be substantiated to stop future occurrence. The questions are:

“Why Court? With whom is he going to court and who is the complainant?

“Will the hired terrorist that attacked him and killed his security Body Guard also be in court? If yes, when did you arrest them and can we see their pictures?” he queried on a Facebook post.

He alluded that Bello was sick and in need of urgent medical attention and charged the police to release him.

“Evang. Musa Bello needs urgent medical attention that doesn’t concern you, is it not the living that goes to court? If he dies, God forbid, will you take a dead body to court?”

According to Azzaman, the Evangelist has been moved from the Apo Police Division to the FCT CID.

“They are moving the case from APO Police Division to FCT State CID. They are accusing Evangelist Musa with conspiracy and Arm Robbery.

“I asked the Police man if he was found with arms why are they charging him with arm robbery? And the policeman couldn’t answer me.

“I asked the Policeman if Moving him to State CID is better and he answered and said many influential people are interested in his case,” he said.

He has been championing calls for the release of Bello since Tuesday when it first came out online. Many have followed suit, calling for the release of the Fulani evangelist.

“Apo police station Abuja we are not comfortable with your position, release evangelist Musa Bello now. Go after his assailants and stop putting this young man into untold hardship,” he posted.

“Evangelist Musa is a Fulani man, who converted to Christianity and his life is no longer at peace, He has been arrested because of his faith. #FreeEvangelistMusa,” one @chuksEricE posted on X.

“Please join me to demand for the release of Evangelist Musa, the Fulani man that converted to Christianity. He has been arrested because of his faith! #FreeEvangelistMusa,” @Tutsy22 posted too on X
