Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Zurak village, Wase Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 40 people and left many others hospitalised. The incident has added to a growing list of violent attacks in the region.

Obi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and called for decisive action from the government to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

“One continues to be disheartened by the persistent reports of terrorist attacks across Plateau, Benue, and other parts of the country,” Obi stated.

“The recent reports of an attack in Zurak village in Wase LGA of Plateau State, which has left about 40 people dead and many others hospitalised, remains a very sad one, which must be condemned in strong terms.”

Obi emphasised the urgent need for the government to take its responsibilities seriously.

“These repeated attacks, particularly in Plateau have become too many to make any discerning mind worrisome. Again, I call on the government to rise to its responsibilities of securing the lives and property of Nigerians with corresponding actions.”

Beyond immediate security measures, Obi underscored the importance of long-term strategies to combat insecurity by addressing underlying issues.

Above all, we must take every necessary measure to drastically reduce insecurity in the nation by investing in the critical areas of human development: education, health, and lifting people out of poverty, he asserted.

Peter Obi extended his condolences to the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, and the people of the state, particularly the families who lost loved ones in the attack.

“I sincerely sympathise with the Governor of Plateau, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the government, and the people of Plateau State, especially the bereaved families, over this tragic occurrence. May God grant eternal rest to the dead and quick recovery to the hospitalised,” he concluded.

The attack in Zurak village adds to a troubling pattern of violence in Nigeria, raising urgent questions about national security and the effectiveness of current measures to protect citizens from such atrocities.
