The Osun State government has ordered all schools to close by July 31. This directive applies to both public and private educational institutions within the state.

A Public Service Announcement (PSA) signed by Mr A. Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, was released in Osogbo on Monday. The announcement urged parents and guardians to prioritise their children’s safety during the holiday period.

The PSA stated, “This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians, and heads of both public and private schools in the state that due to the planned nationwide protests, all schools are directed to proceed on the third term vacation From Wednesday 31st July, 2023.

“Parents and Guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.”

Earlier on Monday, Governor Ademola Adeleke had discussions with leaders of Civil Society Organisations and student groups in the state regarding the planned protest against hunger.

The decision for students to vacate schools on the said date follows the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protests, which aim to push for better economic reforms and welfare policies under President Bola Tinubu and are scheduled to start on August 1.
