Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has issued a statement clarifying the  independence of the obedient movement, distancing it from any specific political party or leadership claims.

The Obidient Movement is not a directorate of any particular political party, Obi stated.

He emphasised that individuals claiming leadership of a non-existent directorate within the movement are not recognised members of the broader Obidient Movement.

While political parties may have youth mobilisation directorates, the Obidient Movement extends far beyond any single party affiliation.

Obi described the Obidient Movement as a “diverse and inclusive collective” transcending traditional political, religious, and ethnic boundaries.

It is not domiciled within any particular party or headquartered in any specific part of the country, he said.

The movement’s membership spans across Africa and the globe, drawing from various backgrounds, including rural communities and public, private, and corporate entities. A shared vision unites all members for a new and better Nigeria.

Guided by principles of adaptive and transformative change, progress, discipline, and democratic values, the Obidient Movement advocates for fairness, equity, inclusivity, and justice.

Obi stressed the movement’s commitment to a strictly accountable and responsible code of government, with members dedicated to the New Nigeria project anchored on loyalty, integrity, and democratic values.

The movement aims to foster positive change through integrity, honesty, and accountability, rejecting deceitful behaviors.

We serve as a beacon of hope for a reimagined Nigeria, where leadership is grounded in character, capacity, competence, compassion, and the well-being of all citizens, Obi declared.

This statement serves to clarify that the Obidient Movement operates independently of any political party, and its membership is not confined to any particular affiliation. And also in reaction to the recent report that eight people had been appointed by the Labour Party to pilot the affairs of the ‘Obidient’ Directorate.

According to the party, the appointment is part of its repositioning efforts towards integrating millions of Nigerian youths, particularly the ‘Obidient’ family, into the more prominent family of the party.
