FilmOne released its annual roundup of the highest-grossing films from the previous year, spotlighting both Nollywood and Hollywood hits. Topping the list for Nollywood were titles like “A Tribe Called Judah” and “Malaika,” while Hollywood boasted blockbusters such as “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

Nigerian audiences spent a total of ₦1.6 billion on Nollywood’s top performers and ₦2.1 billion on Hollywood releases. Hollywood’s success can be attributed to its more significant production and marketing budgets, resulting in more immersive experiences for viewers with better special effects and sound quality.

Additionally, Hollywood films benefit from global distribution, spanning various genres and appealing to audiences worldwide. Despite these advantages, Nollywood remains true to its cultural roots, exploring themes relevant to Nigerian life and incorporating local music and language.

As Nollywood continues to evolve and pursue global distribution, it can leverage its storytelling expertise and embrace advancements in production quality to provide audiences with a unique and competitive movie experience.
