Mrs Bina Jennifer Efidi Seifegha, a Nigeria citizen who bravely withstood an attack by state-sponsored hoodlums during the 2023 Presidential and Senatorial Election in Lagos, Nigeria, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Defender of Democracy’ award by Champion Newspaper Limited.

She was awarded on Saturday, May 25, during the Annual Champion Newspapers’ Awards at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Seifegha was captured in a 17-second video which went viral on social media on February 25th in her polling unit in Surulere.

She was subjected to injuries to her right eye by the hoodlums, who were suspected to be supporters of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

They can only disfigure my face. They can’t stop me from voting,” she was reported as saying

A year and three months later, Seifegha was honoured for her immense contributions to the socio-political and the symbol of courage and hope she represented.
