Nigerians Criticise Kano Governor's Distribution Of 600 Wheelbarrows Amid Nationwide Protest

Nigerians, on a critical note, have reacted to the recent distribution of over 600 wheelbarrows and shovels by the Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has stated the tools were only distributed to community development associations for the 2024 Kano Drainage Clearance Exercise.

The distribution event, held in Kano, was overseen by Governor Yusuf, as the tools were allocated to the beneficiaries in the community.

After the event, criticism ensued, particularly one that indicated the development was meant to be a local government initiative.

However, Governor Yusuf emphasised that the goal of this program is to bring hope to the youths, assisting them in their economic activities.

In a reactionary post, Governor Yusuf further stated that the state currently has numerous young people enrolled in the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Institute, and they’re getting acquainted with modern technical skills.

Not to forget the 26 tertiary and entrepreneurial institutions that this administration reopened after being closed for eight years,” he added.

At the same time, we have consistently paid tuition fees for Kano State undergraduate students in various universities nationwide. This isn’t a loan, it’s free of charge, the post reads.

We appreciate constructive feedback, the Governor wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Kano State is currently exercising curfews as directed by the governor, who has also met with the Kano State Security Council and all heads of state security agencies on Tuesday to further relax the curfews from 6:00 to 18:00 daily.
