Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has commenced the search for filming locations in Ghana for the next season of his series, “Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre.” On Tuesday, July 23, Afolayan shared clips on social media, documenting his location scouting in Recce, Ghana.

This venture collaborates with Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, the CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority. Highlighting the partnership, Asante took to Instagram to express enthusiasm about Afolayan’s visit, encouraging global filmmakers to explore Ghana’s stunning landscapes and state-of-the-art facilities for their cinematic projects.

The inaugural season of “Anikulapo” was filmed entirely at the Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Film Village in Igbojaye, Oyo State, with an extensive cast and crew of 600 members. This new four-part series acts as a continuation of the 2022 Netflix original film, “Anikulapo.” The film chronicles the journey of Saro, a newcomer and traditional textile weaver in Oyo, who becomes romantically involved with Queen Arolake in an unexpected turn of events.

The latest series, released in 2024, delves into Saro’s revival and his continued unscrupulous activities, alongside Arolake’s rise to affluence, which brings her new formidable adversaries.

The ensemble cast features notable actors such as Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Adebayo Salami, Layi Wasabi, Moji Afolayan, Jide Kosoko, Lateef Adedimeji, Uzee Usman, Gabriel Afolayan, amongst others.
