Nigerian Entrepreneurs Shine in 2024 Swiss-Africa Start-up Competition

The 2024 Swiss–Africa Academia-Industry Training (AIT) start-up competition has crowned twelve winners from Nigeria, South Africa, and Rwanda across diverse sectors like biotech, fintech, and clean energy.

Notable among the Nigerian winners were Evet Africa, which specialises in digital animal healthcare, and TY-Dami Energy Resources, pioneering climate-friendly refrigeration solutions. These winners will participate in the Swiss Residency Week in Switzerland.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Folasade Ogunsola applauded the Swiss government for extending the 2024 Swiss–African Science and Business Innovators Program (SASBI) to Nigeria. She emphasised the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among Nigerian youths and showcasing their talent to the world.

Frank Eggmann, Switzerland’s consul general in Lagos, highlighted the transformative power of innovation in addressing societal challenges, drawing parallels between Switzerland’s past and Nigeria’s present. He underscored the SASBI initiative’s role in supporting startups and providing them with opportunities for growth and development.

Erich Thaler, SASBI’s programme director, outlined the program’s objectives, focusing on translating academic expertise into market-ready solutions. With Nigeria and Rwanda as new partner countries, SASBI aims to drive innovation and entrepreneurship across various sectors.
