Nigeria: Gunmen Attack Senator Natasha’s Family House Again, One Suspect Arrested

97

Gunmen have again attacked the family house of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, located in the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, marking the second reported attack on the property in recent times. The attackers were said to have stormed the residence armed with dangerous weapons but were quickly repelled by community vigilantes, concerned youths, and officers from the Okehi Police Division.

The invaders reportedly attempted to vandalise the building, damaging glass doors and windows before they were stopped. One suspect was arrested at the scene.

The arrested individual, identified as Suberu Josa, is a native of the area and is believed to have links to the lawmaker’s political opposition. A cutlass and charms were recovered from him during his arrest. He allegedly confessed to the attack and admitted it was his third time targeting the senator’s family home.

Other suspects involved in the assault escaped and remain at large. The senator’s media team confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

This is not the first time the senator’s residence has come under attack. The house was previously targeted on 15 April 2025. No arrests were made at the time,

The latest attack comes amid heightened political tensions following the senator’s suspension from the Senate. Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months after making public allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. The Federal Government has also recently filed two criminal charges against her.

Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the arrest of one suspect, who, according to him, is offering helpful information to security agents. He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they face justice.
