Niger has formally welcomed the adoption of a new United Nations Security Council resolution addressing Morocco’s proposal for resolving the Western Sahara issue.

The position was conveyed by Niger’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, following his meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on the sidelines of the Conference on Victims of Terrorism in Africa, held in Rabat.

Sangaré praised the Security Council’s decision and reaffirmed Niger’s support for Morocco’s approach to resolving the long-standing territorial dispute. He noted that the latest resolution provides renewed international backing for a political solution led by Morocco and strengthens regional cooperation efforts.

The conversation between both ministers focused on deepening diplomatic ties and coordinating regional responses to security challenges, particularly terrorism. The meeting also underscored Niger’s alignment with Morocco on key regional issues as both countries continue to strengthen their partnership.

The statement from Niger adds to growing support from several African nations that see the Moroccan plan as a viable framework for long-term stability in the Western Sahara region.
