The Nigerien army announced on Wednesday that more than 100 terrorists were “neutralised” in a military operation near Makalondi in the Tillabéry region, on Sunday, September 15.
The operation, involving both land and air forces, was carried out after an attack on a Defence and Security Forces (FDS) unit in the area, as contained in the Nigerien army’s information bulletin.
Furthermore, the army reported that troops held their ground against the attackers, “inflicting heavy losses on the enemy.” Reinforcements, including special forces and air support, were deployed, launching targeted strikes that destroyed terrorists’ positions and equipment, it added.
Nevertheless, Niger Army said it lost five soldiers to the battle, while 27 were wounded and were receiving treatment.
