New French Interior Minister Believes French Colonisation Of Africa Was “Beautiful”

The newly appointed French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau believes France’s colonisation of Africa was “beautiful”.  He shared this view while speaking in 2023 on the Sud Radio program.

When I go to Africa, people often don’t tell me that. I am told that they are waiting for a France that is a France, who is not repentant, you see? They expect a France that is strong. Because colonization…of course, these were hours that were dark, but there were also hours that were beautiful.”

Aside from his view on colonisation of Africa, Retailleau has long held restricted views on immigration and advocated for hardline immigration policies.

In 2022, Retailleau fueled controversy by condemning those he views as “French on paper” – naturalized citizens who, according to him, undermine French values.

“Some people are offended by the expression ‘French on paper.’ Yes, there are French citizens who have applied for naturalization and who say ‘Fuck France’ while receiving benefits. Who can say that this does not exist? Stop the denial and the hypocrisy,” he wrote.

Upon his appointment as Interior Minister, he reaffirmed his uncompromising approach.

In a statement posted on X, he wrote, “Honored and proud to serve France, within the Government of Michel Barnier. The police, who risk their lives for the safety of our compatriots, can count on me: I will be their first support. The French expect only one thing from public officials: results. So I am here to act, with a single watchword: restore order to ensure harmony.”
