I always allow for that space when I’m making music. I want to create music with everyone in mind, including those who may not know or understand my language or culture. But I always strive to include them. I’m from Nigeria; I want to act locally but think globally in my approach with music. — Asa

Nigerian-French musical icon Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, graces the latest cover of GQ South Africa’s Music and Creativity issue, presented in collaboration with Platoon, capturing her dynamic artistic essence.

Renowned for her soul-stirring vocals and innovative musical style, the feature highlights Asa’s effortless transition across various genres, solidifying her formidable presence in music and fashion.

On the cover, Asa captivates in a meticulously crafted ensemble adorned with cowry beads, paying homage to her Yoruba heritage with elegance and grace.

While recognised for her signature locs, Asa embraces a fresh look with intricately braided “half-up bantu knots and half-down” hairstyle, complemented by a radiant golden makeup palette. She completes her ensemble with platform slippers, infusing the outfit with an edginess that mirrors her boundary-pushing musical artistry.
