Properties lost to the recent fire outbreak in Kwara have been estimated to be worth N23.8m, which happened at the Alfa Yahaya area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Saturday.
The fire outbreak consumed seven flats and two shops at number 5, Ado compound. It burnt three of the seven flats while the two shops were destroyed, leaving no items unturned.
Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, upon confirmation of the incident, added that the men of the fire service worked excellently to minimize the damage caused by the fire. Though other rooms in the building, including many tangible properties, were saved from the scathed fire, unfortunately, damage to goods was recorded in millions.
Fire outbreaks always have a leading cause. Findings reveal that the cause of the fire was traced to the power surge in the area.
“Total estimated property saved is N47.4 million, and total estimated property lost is N23.8 million,” Adekunle said.
The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, added that “citizens should always cultivate the habit of disabling electrical appliances just before bedtime, as this would help in the prevention of fire outbreaks in their various homes, offices and ultimately reduce the chances of fire incidents.”
