Katsina: Customs Auctions 3,522 Cartons of Seized Matches at ₦5000 each

The joint border patrol team of the Nigeria Customs Service, Sector IV, has commenced the public auction of 3,522 cartons of matches in Katsina State. With a Duty Paid Value of N17.6 million, each carton is sold at a discounted rate of 5,000 Naira. Channels TV reports that this is significantly below the average market price of approximately 13,000 Naira.

The foreign-made matches, seized on a truck with registration CO-436-KT along the Kano Expressway, are being offered to mostly petty traders.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the Command’s Northwest Headquarters in Katsina, Unit Coordinator Kola Oladeji highlighted the approval and direction for the auctioning exercise by the management of the Nigerian Customs Service, under the leadership of Customs Comptroller General Bashir Adeniyi. He expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Customs Service in facilitating the initiative. According to him, the auction will relieve citizens during these challenging times.

“You can see by yourselves, the number of residents mostly petty traders who are rushing to buy. The importance of this gesture cannot be overstated. At the end of this exercise, the money generated by the accountant of the Command from the auctioning will be deposited and paid into the Federation Account”, he remarked.
