Israeli Defence Minister Runs To US For 'Critical' Talks As Gaza-Lebanon Conflict Heightens

Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant has flown to meet top Biden administration officials in Washington on what he described as ‘critical’ talks concerning the multi-faceted conflicts with Gaza’s Hamas and Lebanon Hezbollah.

Accompanied by the Israel Defence Forces’ Deputy chief of staff, Amir Baram, Gallant will be meeting with the U.S. defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, the secretary of state, Antony Blinken, and Joe Biden’s special envoy, Amos Hochstein.

Gallant’s visit, however, came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the Biden administration was presiding over a ‘dramatic drop’ in arms shipments to Israel—a claim that sparked reactions from U.S. officials, describing it as ‘perplexing.’

With Netanyahu feeling relentless, he has reiterated his commitment to Israel’s security.

I am ready to suffer personal attacks for the sake of Israel’s security – I will not give up the means our fighters need,” Netanyahu wrote on X.

Gallant described the goal of the visit as a plan to discuss the development in Gaza and Lebanon.

During these meetings, I plan to discuss developments in Gaza and Lebanon. These discussions are critical and impactful at this time. We are prepared for any action that may be required in Gaza, Lebanon and additional areas,” he said.

While there are growing tensions in these regions, the U.S. has also confirmed that Israel’s Iron Dome defence system poses overwhelming risks as the war is fast becoming an all-out war with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to Israeli officials, Israel intercepted a drone launched outside its airspace by an Iran-allied group in Iraq—a move reportedly put that other Iran-allied groups in the region had offered to send fighters to support Hezbollah in the event of a wider war.

With the situation worsening as Israel’s IDF has threatened a military offensive by killing a senior Hezbollah military commander in southern Lebanon, a repel attack is imminent.
