Chief Charles Ejiogu, the Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), announced on Wednesday that local government elections in Imo State will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

He stated that these elections, covering 305 registration areas and wards, and 4,758 polling units in the 27 Local Government Areas, will bring new chairmen in the state’s council areas.

Ejiogu made this announcement during a stakeholders meeting in Owerri, assuring that ISIEC is ready to fulfill its constitutional duties in conducting a fair and transparent election process.

He said that the commission released the election guidelines and timetable during the meeting, in line with a prior announcement made on May 24, 2024.

He urged political parties to adhere to the rules and engage their candidates constructively to ensure internal democracy, stating that ISIEC will oversee the primary elections as required by the amended Electoral Act.

Ejiogu called for cooperation from the public, emphasising the recruitment of Ad-Hoc personnel and collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
