The recent brutal attack on Ugwujoro village in the Nimbo Community of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents reeling in grief and fear.

Suspected killer ‘herdsmen’ are believed to be behind the killing that resulted in the loss of multiple lives and inflicted deep anguish upon innocent villagers. The attack has reignited longstanding concerns over security in the region, particularly in areas like Uzo Uwani, which have been plagued by violence in the past.

The recent killings have drawn swift condemnation from political figures and community leaders alike.

Peter Obi, in a statement on X, decried the government’s apparent lack of response to the killings, emphasising the need for visible commitment to the security of Nigerians.

He highlighted the strategic significance of Uzo Uwani as the leading agricultural bed of Enugu State and warned of the far-reaching consequences of continued insecurity on food production.

”Uzo Uwani local government area of Enugu state is the main agricultural bed of the state and the continued insecurity there will have far-reaching consequences on food production in the state,” Obi noted.

Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 elections, expressed outrage over the senseless killings, calling for immediate and resolute action from both state and federal authorities. Edeoga urged heightened vigilance among residents and called on them to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of their communities.

”The ongoing violence and bloodshed perpetrated by assailants believed to be killer herdsmen are intolerable and demand immediate and resolute action from both the state and federal governments. I urge the authorities to prioritise the security of our communities and swiftly bring the perpetrators of these atrocities to justice,” he noted.

As of now, the government of Enugu State, led by Governor Peter Mbah, is yet to react or make comments on the killings.
